
Rev. Dr. Carl L. DeHaney, Jr. Bio
Rev. Dr. Carl L. DeHaney, Jr. was born in Harlem, NY to Deacon Carl L. DeHaney, Sr., and Sister Ann DeHaney, but grew up most of his life in Roosevelt, NY. Dr. DeHaney answered the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was licensed and Ordained to the Gospel Ministry at the Emanuel Baptist Church of Elmont, NY by the Rev. Ralph P. Taylor. Dr. DeHaney served as an Associate Minister for six years at the Emanuel Church. In 2020 during the pandemic, Dr. DeHaney was instrumental in spearheading and reviving the Food Distribution Program at the Emanuel Baptist Church of Elmont by forming partnerships with the Island Harvest and Long Island Cares Food Pantries. The Food Distribution Program at the Emanuel Baptist Church still serves numerous families in the community of Elmont as well as communities throughout all of Long Island, New York, and parts of New York City to this very day. Prior to being called to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Dr. DeHaney served as a Past President of the Eastern Baptist Association of New York, Inc., Laymen Auxiliary, as well as a Past Vice President at Large of the Laymen Auxiliary for the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention for the State of New York. In July of 2024, after a vigorous search for a Pastor, Dr. DeHaney was elected by the membership of the Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of Montgomery, Alabama, to be the 8th Pastor of this historic church. History was confirmed on March 9th, 2025, when Dr. DeHaney was officially installed as Pastor.
Dr. DeHaney has studied extensively on all levels of Secular and Spiritual education. Dr. DeHaney is a graduate of Adelphi University, with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Management and Communication and has also earned his Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) from Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. Dr. DeHaney attended United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where he has earned his Master of Ministry (M. Min) degree as well as his Doctor of Ministry (D. Min) in Strategic Leadership for Black Congregations as a Curtis-Watson Fellow. In the secular world, Dr. DeHaney has served as Senior Public Information Officer for the Nassau County Department of Human Services and has also served as Assistant Commissioner for the Nassau County Department of Social Services. He has also served as the Commissioner for the Town of Hempstead Sanitary District No. 2, where he was elected by the residents of that district; Dr. DeHaney was the second of only two African American Commissioners to ever serve in the district’s more than 100-year history, and in 2014, Dr. DeHaney was the first African American Commissioner to be elected in that district in nearly 30 years.

Dr. DeHaney and his wife First Lady Kimberly have been married for more than 30-years, and were blessed with two children, Carl III, and Kayla, Dr. DeHaney stands on the words of the song that says, “Only what you do for Christ will last!” To God be ALL the glory!
